Eight Don'ts In Contact Lens Storage
Some people find glasses bothersome. Some may find it too nerdy or geeky. Long before contact lenses were used to correct vision, people have relied heavily on glasses. These glasses are calibrated in such a way that an individual who has trouble seeing clearly will be able to see things differently once he or she puts on her glasses.
Glasses have indeed helped a lot of people see but then there are those wearers who were always subjected to ridicule because they look weird with their glasses on. Some glasses can alter a person's image probably because it is too big or too thick.
When the contact lenses were born a lot of people immediately took advantage of its benefits. Other than correcting vision, contact lenses have become a fashion statement and even those who have perfect eyesight are wearing them. Here some things you shouldn't do with your contact lenses.
1. Contact lenses are stored in cases filled with lens care solutions. Do not reuse this solution because this is considered contaminated. It is important that before you put your lenses inside the case you refill it with fresh lens care solution.
2. Do not mix and match different brands of lens care solutions. Remember that each type of contact lenses has a specific brand or type of lens care solution. Using a brand or type of solution that is not recommended may not only ruin your contact lenses but it may also cause irritation.
3. When cleaning your lenses, do not use tap water. One reason is that tap water contains minerals that can stick on your lenses and cause irritation while you are wearing them. Along with those minerals, tap water is also filled with other types of impurities that can even cause some form of eye infection. Another practical reason is that it is easy to lose your contact lenses down the drain while you are washing it with tap water.
4. Do not use homemade saline solution in cleaning your lenses. Studies have shown that improper use of homemade saline solution has been connected to blindness in some contact lens users.
5. Do not forget to change your contact lens case on a regular basis. This is to avoid the build up of any residue inside the case which can attach itself to the lenses and result to eye irritation.
6. Do not use your mouth to clean your contact lenses. Remember that your mouth is filled with bacteria. It may not be harmful inside your mouth but it can be once it has attached itself to your lenses and this can cause infection.
7. Do not place your contact lenses anywhere. Once you are done using it, always place it back inside the case filled with fresh lens care solution. Placing it anywhere can result to you losing as well as damaging it. In addition to that once the lenses are in the case, place the case in a safe spot like the dresser.
8. Do not expose your contact lenses to air because this can dry them out. So once you're done using it, immediately place it inside its case because the fresh lens care solution inside the case will keep it moist.
