Seven Ways To Keep Your Contact Lens Case Clean

Contact lens cases come in various forms but whatever the form or type may be, it is still important to keep it as sterile or as clean as possible. Remember that this is the place where you store your contact lenses and the location other than your eyes where your contact lenses spend so much time.

In case you don't know, some microorganisms can grow inside the cases, get attached to your contact lenses and then eventually gain entry into your eyes. Here are some ways that you can do to keep your contacts case clean thus keeping your contact lenses safe as well.

1. Replace your contact lens case as often as you can at the very once every quarter. The more often you change your case, the lesser the risk of microorganisms breeding in your case. Remember that these organisms can attach themselves on your contact lenses and then eventually gain entry into your eyes. Eye infections should not be taken lightly because these can result to permanent vision loss.

2. Once you have put on your contact lenses immediately throw away the solution inside the case. It is not advisable to reuse the solution because once it used it is considered expired. Aside from that, if the solution stays too long inside the case residue can build up that can result to damaged contact lenses.

3. When cleaning your contact lenses, do not just clean the inside, also clean the outside part including the underside. If you clean just one area, you are not totally cleaning it and some microorganisms might be left on those areas you failed to disinfect.

4. If you want to do things the simple way, you can always clean your contact lens case with hot water and then air dry it when not in use. It is important to keep the case dry because moisture can serve as a breeding ground for disease causing microorganisms.

5. Once the case has dried, do not forget the lid. This is important because closing the lid will prevent dust and dirt from accumulating in the inside part of the case. The case has to be as clean as possible.

6. For a more thorough cleaning, you can use a clean toothbrush to scrub the whole case. Then, rinse it with a disinfecting solution. Using a disinfecting solution is an advantage because this contains chemical compounds that kill microorganisms. After rinsing, you will then have to air dry your contact lens case.

7. Another option is by sterilizing your case. You can sterilize it in two ways. One is by dropping it in boiling water and soaking it there for about three minutes and second is by microwaving it for the same amount of time given that your case is microwavable or is built to withstand high temperature.

Keeping your contact lens case clean will also keep your contact lens clean. Keep in mind that whatever is inside your case, it will surely attach itself to your contact lens and then to your eyes.
