Ten Tips To Keep Your Contact Lens Safe While Wearing Cosmetics

Contact lenses have this uncanny ability to brighten or improve someone's looks. In other words, it kind of works the same way as the makeup does. Then again, there are those women who aside from wearing contact lenses would also prefer to put on cosmetics.

It may be hard to imagine wearing make up with contact lenses because it might damage the lenses. But then this is not impossible. All you have to do is follow the tips below and be assured that your lenses will stay in tip top shape.

1. Avoid using eyelash extending mascara because these have fibers that can irritate the eyes. Remember that you cannot rub your eyes with your contact lens on because not only will it result to corneal abrasion, it can also result to the displacement of your contact lenses.

2. It is also better to use water resistant mascara rather than water proof mascara. Water proof mascara is hard to remove. Other than that, it can also stain your beloved contact lenses. Stains on the contact lens are a big no-no.

3. Choose cosmetic brands that are designed specifically to be used alongside contact lenses. Using these types of cosmetics will surely reduce the risk of eye irritation as well as staining your contact lenses.

4. If you are fond of using eyeliner, then you should opt to use the soft pencil type rather than those liquid eyeliner types or those liners in powder form because these can flake off, get inside your eyes and worst get stuck on the surface of your contact lenses which can result to blurred vision.

5. When using eyeliner, it is also best if you apply it outside the lash line. Remember that the lash line has some glands that keep the eye moisturized and we all know that it is important to keep the eye moisturized in order to avoid any onset irritation. When the eye is moisturized, so are the lenses. Applying it outside the lash line will keep the glands open.

6. Always put on your contacts first before you apply any type of makeup. Remember that some make up are oil based and oil is not your contact lenses' best friend because this can stain them and affect visual clarity.

7. When shopping for cosmetics, aside from choosing those that are compatible with contact lenses, always make sure that these are water-based and hypoallergenic. Oil based make up is hard to remove and is most likely to stain your contact lenses.

8. If you are going to apply eye shadow, use the pressed powder type because this doesn't contain oil as base and tinsel which is a rust forming ingredient commonly found in frosted or pearlized eye shadows.

9. Use make up sponges when applying eye shadow rather than brushes because this will give you better control on the particles that fall off. Apart from that, lesser particles are dislodged when using make up sponges.

10. At the end of the day before you remove your make up make sure that you remove the lenses first. This will keep them from getting stained or damaged from the use of make removers.
