Seven Types Of Contact Lenses
Throughout the years, human beings have found ways and means to make life easier and convenient. We have changed and modified various aspects of food, transportation and even health related concerns that would virtually make things much easier than it should be. Just like contact lenses, it has evolved through the years and has come a long way since the concept of spectacles or eyeglasses has been thought of.
Contact lenses have been helpful and its functions have expanded into different categories. Lenses can also be used for fashion or cosmetic purposes as well apart from being a visual aid for reading and viewing purposes. It can also protect your eyes from those damaging UV rays just like the sunglasses do. These have helped several individuals for years and have vastly improved and transformed into different types. Here are some types of contact lenses.
• Bifcol contact lenses. These types of lenses are designed for individuals with astigmatism and presbyopia conditions. Each set of lens are specifically designed and customized according to the patient's eye needs. These lenses should not be worn directly without the doctor's prescription.
• Hard contact lenses. Due to the fast and steady growth of technology and medical improvements, there are only a few users and wearers left of such lenses. These were made of hard plastic material which is specifically called Polymethylmethacrylate. Such lenses are durable and could provide excellent vision; however, are very uncomfortable due to its thickness and hardness.
• RGP or rigid gas permeable lenses. Such lenses are very similar to hard contact lenses but would differ in its content. These contain fluorine and silicone which provides an excellent formulation of polymers.
• Disposable contact lenses. Such lenses are designed for short time use only. They can be used for a day to up to three months depending on how these would be managed and handled. These are also very popular and comfortable to wear that is why it is also commonly used by several individuals.
• Extended wear contact lenses. One of the conveniences of having contacts is to function and work without hassle and discomfort; however, you will have to constantly remove them from time to time especially when it's time to snooze. But this is not the case with extended wear contact lenses. Such lenses could provide you with the convenience of waking up early in the morning with your contacts on. This is very helpful most especially for nearsighted people for they would no longer need to insert their contacts every time they would wake up in the morning.
• Daily wear contact lenses. So far it is the most popular and commonly used type of lens as of today. Such lenses are very comfortable and are easier to use as compared to the other types of lenses. These are also considered to be safest contact lenses on the planet. Such lenses are made of water containing plastic polymer materials or hydrophilic which are very flexible like gels. Often times it would basically just feel like water droplets that are in your eyes.
• Toric contact lenses. These lenses are excellent to solve problems such as nearsightedness and farsightedness.
