Ten Eye Care Tips
If you can't imagine yourself living without your vision, then you should start taking care of your eyes now. Here are some ways how to take care of your eyes.
1. When you are wearing contact lenses avoid rubbing your eyes. Rubbing your eyes has always been a big no-no especially with contacts on. Why? Because the rubbing motion can displace the contacts and at the same time cause some abrasions on the cornea or worst result to tearing. The cornea is the thin, clear film covering your eyes and the contact lenses are directly placed on top of it. That is why it results to corneal abrasion once you rub your eyes with your contacts on.
2. If you put on sunscreen to protect your skin then you should do the same thing to your eyes. Not that you have to put on sunscreen; but instead wear UV protective sunglasses. Go for those shades that have polarized lenses because it protects your eyes better than those with dark lenses alone. Remember that the UV rays from the sun can also damage your eyes. It may not be evident at the moment, but later in life the damage will make itself known.
3. When working with chemicals especially those volatile liquids, always wear a protective gear not only for your body but also for your eyes. Do not forget to wear goggles or a face shield when you are working with these types of liquid because once it gets into your eyes expect severe damage.
4. Wear contact lenses when needed. Yes, contact lenses can be fashionable and it can also improve your looks. But remember that it is still a foreign body and it can irritate your eyes. So if you have no use for it, then don't use it. Avoid wearing contact lenses beyond 12 hours because it can result to sight damage and discomfort.
5. Do not read in the dark. We have always been told not to do this simply because reading in the dark will cause our eyes to strain more.
6. Avoid staying too close to the television set or the computer monitor because the glare will result to eye strain as well as some discomfort. Along with that, the glare can also damage the receptors in your eyes.
7. Eat healthy. Foods contain a lot of vitamins and nutrients essential in keeping our eyes healthy. Eat a good amount of these foods as well take some vitamin supplements too in order to maintain a particular therapeutic level of some vitamins.
8. If you notice something unusual with your vision or experience some pain, then do not hesitate to have it checked. Keep in mind that early diagnosis can save your eyesight.
9. When you are reading, find a comfortable position and do not forget to rest your eyes once in a while. This will surely help reduce eye strain.
10. Do not put anything into your eyes unless the doctor prescribed it. Your eyes are very precious so avoid playing around with them.
Your eyes are as important as the rest of your body parts. So as long as it is working very well, do not wait for your vision to falter for you to start taking good care of it; instead, start now.
