Three Ways Of Taking Good Care Of Your Eyes

Every normal human being has five senses namely sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste. All these five senses are every bit as important as the other is. If one is lost, the remaining four senses try to compensate for the loss of one. But regardless of this, the five senses is always better than four.

One such sense that is very easily lost is your eyesight. There is so much beauty and splendor that one can see in your eyesight that so many people consider this as one of their favorite senses. The world around us today would be so much different if we didn't have our eyes to show us the way. The eyes are the windows to our soul, yet they also serve as the soul's window to the world. All the sights you have come to know and love (e.g., the sight of your girlfriend or wife, a beautiful sunset, breathtaking scenery) could vanish from you forever in a blink of an eye. To help you take better care of this precious thing, here are a few things that you might consider.

1. Read with sufficient light conditions.

Most of us may think that reading doesn't matter as long as you can see the words written on the book or magazine. Think again. Reading should be done with adequate light conditions so that you would avoid damaging your eyes. Some people who read with a dim light often think that this may be okay because they feel that nothing is wrong with their eyes. Doing this repeatedly though would surely enough destroy your eyesight in the long run.

2. Don't stay too close to the TV or monitor.

Whether you've been at work all day, playing World of Warcraft or any other game for that matter, it all boils down to one thing. You've been staring at the computer screen for too long. This would result to having eyestrain. Experiencing such a thing is very uncomfortable and bothersome resulting to a greatly reduced performance of work or gaming ability. Aside from staring too long at the computer screen, watching too much TV and staying too close to the TV screen can also result to eyestrain. This is when you experience sore or burning eyes, headache and sore neck, watery or dry eyes, and light sensitivity. Although eyestrain is not associated with long-term effects, it wouldn't hurt to be careful. Take breaks every few hours or so to relieve your eyes from all the stress you've put it through. Even more blinks every now and then would be a great help.

3. Get enough rest.

Getting the right amount of sleep means that your eyes would be rested from the work it's been doing the entire day. Most people are awake for about 16 hours a day, and throughout all that time, your nerves keep firing up and sending information to your brain from your eyes. When you sleep, all those nerves that work so hard relaying a constant stream of information to your brain gets the much needed repairs it deserves. So get lots of rest after a long day. Your eyes deserve those seven or eight hours of peace.
